Mumbai Police will now be able to patrol beaches with more efficiency and speed thanks to the induction of ten All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) in its fleet. These ATVs were flagged off at Girgaon Chowpatty on June 7, 2021, by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Uddhav Thackeray, in the presence of some State leaders and senior police officers.
The ATVs will be primarily used for patrolling at the beaches and deployed in rescue operation where normal vehicles cannot be reached. The petrol engine-powered ATVs are capable of reaching a speed of 50-69 km per hour on sandy surfaces. Each vehicle can carry four persons at a time.
The ATVS were donated by Reliance Foundation to the Mumbai City Police after due approval from the State Government.
