The Thane police (rural) managed a yet another breakthrough under the directions of Mahesh Patil – SP, Thane (Rural), known for swift decision making and intolerance towards any kind of illegal activities in his jurisdiction.
The city cops intercepted a car at the Dahisar check naka and seized a huge consignment of Marijuana (ganja) being brought into the city for consumption on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. According to the police, the local cops got a tip-off about a car containing ganja being smuggled from another state to be circulated in the city.
Acting on the tip-off, the cops became vigilant and kept a watchful eye on all the vehicles passing through Dahisar check naka. On spotting a suspiciously parked Ford Fiesta car at the service road near the Dahisar check point, an on duty patrolling unit decided to conduct verifications. As soon as the car driver got the whiff that the cops were approaching him he tried to speed away from the spot. The cops chased the car and alerted the traffic team that successfully barricaded the road ahead on the highway.
“On being trapped, the driver left the car and fled from from the spot. 150 kilograms of ganja was found on search, packed in small bags and stashed in the car seats and cover. Apart from the narcotic consignment valued at Rs. nine lakhs, two number plates were also recovered from the car. A teams of police officers is on the lookout for the car owner and peddler. A case under relevant section of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against unidentified persons,” said a police officer attached to Thane police (Rural).
